FEATURES OF TEACHING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE AT THE UNIVERSITY ON THE LINGUO-COGNITIVE BASIS (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

Abstract

The article considers the features of teaching foreign languages using the principles and methods of cognitive linguistics. The author gives examples of successful application of teaching English grammar, vocabulary and phraseology on the linguo-cognitive basis. The paper presents the methods and mechanisms of cognitive linguistics, the use of which allows increasing the efficiency of educational process, and indicates the merits of linguo-cognitive education. A number of obstacles standing in the way of optimizing foreign language classes are considered and the ways to overcome them are suggested.
