Fostering a responsible attitude toward health in students through the study of "Human Biology" in the 9th grade: an educational perspective

Abstract

The aim of this research is to substantiate the necessity and possibility of fostering a responsible attitude toward health in students based on an axiological approach within the context of biology education in the 9th grade of general education schools. The article describes a classification of pedagogical approaches that facilitate the development of a responsible attitude toward health in students, as well as the content of the "Human Biology" section in the 9th grade curriculum that supports this process. As an example of fostering a responsible attitude toward health in students, a lesson plan outline is presented for one of the key topics in the "Human Biology" section of the 9th grade curriculum. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that the theory and methodology of biology education is supplemented by the author's definition of the concept of "responsible attitude of students towards health" in the context of studying the "Human Biology" section in the 9th grade. The results include the development of methods to ensure the formation of practical skills necessary for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and that promote the consolidation of knowledge and values necessary for making informed decisions about health; factors determining the feasibility of using the axiological approach in shaping students’ responsible attitude toward health, including compliance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard for Basic General Education for the formation of personal qualities and worldview, the need to counter the growing incidence of diseases among young people associated with unhealthy lifestyles, insufficient knowledge about health and skills for critically evaluating information, the sensitivity of adolescence for the formation of value orientations and worldview; development of an algorithm for the formation of responsible attitude toward health, which demonstrates the sequence of steps from awareness of the need for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, to the formation of sustainable health-preserving behavior; and also the development of a lesson plan outline "Immunity", aimed at shaping students' responsible attitude toward health, by forming not only knowledge, but also motivation to adopt a healthy lifestyle and a sense of personal responsibility for their health. The development of a lesson plan outline for biology in school makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of forming a holistic and conscious attitude of students towards health.
