Instructors' readiness to use artificial intelligence technologies in the foreign language training of students at non-linguistic universities

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the readiness of instructors at non-linguistic universities to use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the foreign language training of students. To identify the key factors influencing the readiness of faculty to integrate AI tools into their professional activities, an analysis was conducted of the works of contemporary researchers on issues of informatization of education and the problems of using artificial intelligence in the linguodidactic process of higher education. The study of the peculiarities of perception and use of artificial intelligence tools in the foreign language training of university students was carried out through a survey of employees of the Department of Foreign Languages of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (32 people). The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the authors were able not only to study the current state of the problem of teachers’ readiness to use AI tools in their professional activities, but also to formulate recommendations for the successful implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in the educational process of the university. As a result, the collected quantitative and qualitative data allowed for a more holistic understanding of how university instructors perceive artificial intelligence technologies and use them in organizing foreign language instruction at the university, and the resulting suggestions and comments formed the basis of the practical recommendations presented in the work.
